Herman Ray Ramsey, who resided in Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Monday, August 2, 2021, in Fort Smith. He was born January 22, 1928, in Franklin County in the Potts Community near Charleston, Arkansas, to the late Vernon Luther Ramsey and Cora Ragsdale Ramsey. He was 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Melva A. Newton Ramsey; five brothers, Harlan, J.C., Gerald "Cotton", Jimmy, and LeRoy; four sisters, Naomi, Ima, Genell, and Virginia; and a grandson, Charles Douglas Stubbs, Jr.
Herman was a retired diesel mechanic for the L.A. County School District in California. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, was a former member of the Charleston Scooter Club, and member of Charleston First Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 6th, at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston, with Bro. Buddy Corbell officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Chris; three daughters, Nancy Gail Somera and husband Frank of Georgia, Judy Ann Morse of California and Catherine Alyene Cumberland and husband Tom of Kentucky; one son, Clinton Ray Ramsey of California; (12) grandchildren, (26) great-grandchildren, and (14) great-great-grandchildren.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
Public viewing will begin on Thursday, August 5th, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
