Denise was born to the late Rev. Fred Black and Mary Ann Henderson Black on January 23, 1960 in Oliver Springs TN. Denise was the 8th born of nine children to the union of her parents. She was affectionately called Boo Boo by family and friends.
Denise was the loving and proud mother of devoted daughter Sheena Black Mayes (RaaPhell) of Knoxville TN. Sheena and Denise shared a special and deep bond and their love for one another was strong and could not be shaken. The absolute pride and joy of her life were her two grandchildren; Gabrielle (Bree) and RaaPhelle (Duece) Mayes of Knoxville TN. She was affectionately known as 'Grann' and she would simply beam and glow when she would speak of them! She was her grandchildren's biggest supporter and fan and would travel anywhere they played sports. Denise was truly a driving force of love and tenderness to all that knew her.
She was a devoted and ever present Aunt, great Aunt and great, great Aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. Each Christmas she would give personalized books or ornaments to each of them. Denise was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. She had one of the sharpest mathematical and scientific minds which she put to use as a medical technologist for CSL plasma Labs in Knoxville Tn, for 39 years where she worked in the Immunology department and served as the department supervisor. Denise attended Rice Chapel AMEZ church in Madisonville TN and had a close and personal relationship with God.
Proceeded in death by her parents; Fred and Mary Ann Black. Brothers ; David and Frederick Black. Sisters Dorosia and Faye Black and great-great nephew DeAndre Allen.
Denise is survived by her sisters; Loretta Courtland (James) Darcenia (William)Taylor, Doris Black and brother Danny Black all from Madisonville TN. Nieces: Angela Davis, Tana Courtland, Jakina-July Bolden, Natoshia Courtland and Natasha Black. Nephews: Dunstan (Andrea) Kenderick, DeMarcus (Heather) Taylor
Great nieces and nephews: Jametrious Davis,Ciera Gordon,Channing (Samantha) Gordon, Devaun Davis,Chariah Gordon, Kira Taylor Davis, Keeona Taylor, Jakara Bolden, DeMarion Taylor, Jatasia Bolden, Cian Courtland, Lincoln,Arianna,Camden and Adlynn Kendrick. Chaney and Chandler Courtland.
Great-great nieces and nephews: Cordell Davis, KeAndre Taylor, Aidan Penny, Kingston and Kaedyn Gordon, and Malcolm Taylor-Davis. Devoted cousins: Carla Johnson, Pam Upton and Debbie Black Gaines. Devoted and special work friends: Belinda Kincaid, Nancy Oakes, Carletta Scarberry, Diana Morris and Cindy Henry, and special helping hand friend Tonya Trotter. And a host of cousins,aunts and friends will miss her earthly presence but her heavenly essence will be forever felt.
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, with Rev. Belinda Kincaid officiating. Interment will follow the service at Park City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., Wednesday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Madisonville.
