Betty Jean Lindsey, 87, of Norman, died Sunday morning, May 24, 2015, at Grace Living Center in Norman. Memorial services will be at 11am Saturday at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Graveside services will be at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL.

Mrs. Lindsey was born November 12, 1927 in Skiatook, the only child and daughter of William and Dema Loretta (Mayabb) Brown. She married Dale Zirkle Lindsey in Loami, IL, in 1950 and had her only son, Steven William Lindsey, in 1959.

As a young child, Betty grew up around the oil fields of Seminole and overseas to Hungary (Europe) before World War II, then returned to Altamont, IL, in the late 1930s. She graduated from Altamont High School in 1947, with several high school friends still living; then went on to work in Kansas City, MO, and Springfield IL, where she met Dale and married in 1950. Her family later moved to Arizona and California in 1963.

Following Dale's death in 1974, she spent several years in California and Illinois as a working single mother. In her early 50s, she traveled to attend the Nanny Academy of Chicago. Following her graduation, she worked full-time as a professional nanny for several families in the northern Indiana and Illinois areas until her mid 70s, when she retired and moved back to Oklahoma in 2005. She continued to volunteer her time at the hospital and worked as a tenant representative at the Rose Rock Villa Apartments, where she lived. Betty was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Norman.

Surviving is son, Steven W. Lindsey; daughter-in-law, Janice M. (Faulk) Lindsey; grandchildren Gregory D. Lindsey and Stephanie L. (Lindsey) Gerrald; step-grandchild April D. Ayer, Ronald "Scott" Parkhurst and Patricia "Trish" M. Shiever; great-grandchildren Ryder T. Gerrald and Rayden S. Gerrald; and step-great-grandchildren Kaylee M. Ayers, Benjamin P. Ayers, Blake H. Parkhurst, Luke H. Parkhurst, Nickolas R. Shiever and Kyle S. Shiever.
