ANOTHER OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY--The death of Silas Akers takes from this community an honored citizen. He was born in Ohio and resided in that state until the age of 19 years, when his parents moved with him to Indiana. After a short residence, there he again moved and settled at Warsaw, Illinois, where he married a Mrs. Wells, who in their married life, blessed him with the birth of 4 children. Being left a widower with small children to care for, he in a year after married a Miss Staley whom he survived with her dying shortly after their marriage. One child was the result of this union. He again married a Mrs. Martha Ament and in the fall of 1866 moved to Kansas and to this county where he homesteaded the farm on which he resided until his death. His last wife died leaving him a widower again. He was a man of indomitable will and business integrity. All who knew him found him to be full of hope and energy possessed to a remarkable degree, characteristic of enobling manhood and exceeding kindness of heart. As a husband and father, he was amodel and as a friend he was steadfast and he died as he lived, with peace to all mankind. Five grown children are left to mourn his loss. His remains were interred at the cemetery near his residence about 3 1/2 miles east of this city.
