Paul Day was one of the three known sons of George Day, a founder of Newark, NJ and an immigrant from England, via Massachusetts & then New Haven, Conn. George Day's sons (George Day Jr., Samuel Day & Paul Day) are documented in existing Essex Co., NJ deeds, in which George leaves his Newark lands to his three sons.

Paul's birthdate is documented in NJ Archives First Series; Vol. II, Documents relating to the Colonial History of the State, 1687-1703, P. 337, Newark, on 9/12/1700; Depositions of Zachery Burwell, Jr., age 21 years & Paull Day, age 31 years, taken, before Theophilus Pierson [see FAG: 179500292] re Newark riots. Thus, Paul Day was born in 1669. In this era [1700-1720], local census data state that all of Newark had less than 500 families. Newark, at this time, covered a huge area, including parts of what is today Morris, & Union counties, as well as Essex County. Morris County was not formed until 1739, & Union County, not until 1857.

Paul married Phebe Brown, daughter of Thomas Brown, Sr., of Newark, Essex Co., NJ. [will proved: 4/7/1711]. Paul & Phebe had 5 known children:
