Flora A. Weaver Winter

Flora A. Weaver was born October 25, 1849, in Akron, Summit County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Moses Weaver and Fanny Delana Hines Winter, and grew up in Lena, Illinois. Her siblings included Ada B. Weaver (birth 1849), Bertram Moses Weaver (1858-1944), Sara "Sadie" Fanny Weaver (1860-1918) and Sherman E. Weaver (1866-1927).

About 1872, she married William Winter, the son of Jacob Winter and Mary Ann Reagan Winter. They had two children, Harry LeRoy Winter (1873-1957) and Mary Frances Winter (1875-1957).
She lived in Rockford, Illinois, for 40 years. Her husband was a traveling salesman for a long period and made his home on Seminary Street. From there Mr. and Mrs. Winter moved to National Avenue in Rockford.

She was an active member of the Second Congregational Church and was affiliated with the Mendelsohn Club and the Rockford Woman's Club.
Her husband died July 24, 1918, at the age of 73 following a tragic house fire when he was visiting his son and family in Vermont.

Flora died March 28, 1925, at the age of 75 in Clermont, Lake County, Florida, where she had been spending the winter. She had been ill for several months from pneumonia. Services were held at her daughter's home on National Avenue. Burial was in the Forest View Abbey Mausoleum, and later buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Rockford, Illinois.

This biographical sketch was assembled by Don Winter Sparhawk, second great-grandson of Flora A. Weaver Winter. Much of the information is from an obituary printed in the Rockford (Illinois) Star, March 29, 1925, page 10.
