RAILWAY ACCIDENT The Victim A Native Of Invercargill
Thomas Welsh, the victim of the railway accident on the main Trunk line, was a native of Invercargill. He was born at Georgetown a little over thirty years ago and was a son of the late Patrick Welsh, who was killed about twenty years ago by a falling tree while engaged at work in Seaward Bush and of Mrs Holz, a resident of Gorge Road. He also leaves a brother, Arthur, who is employed as a train examiner in the railway service at Blugg. Mr Welsh was educated at the Haldane School and in August 19903 entered the Invercargill engine-shed. Subsequently he became a fireman and about twelve years ago was transferred to Timaru, where he resided for some years, when he removed to the North Island, having obtained an engine-driver's certificate. He was a nephew of Mr Michael Welsh, of Ettrick street.
