"Mrs. Leona Bowman, 89, of 503 N.E. Greenfield Road, died Saturday in a nursing home in Gower, Mo. She was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Bowman had been a bookbinder for Smith-Grieves Printing Co. She was a member of Local 60, International Brotherhood of Bookbinders. She was a member of the Harlem Baptist Church. She leaves two sons, William W. Bowman of Harrisonville, Mo., and Joseph Whitney Bowman of Kansas City; a daughter, Mrs. Marcella Daering Mattox of Kansas City; a sister, Mrs. Clara Huffman of Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Newcomer White Chapel; burial in East Slope Cemetery." The Kansas City Times, April 16, 1984
