Joseph James Reed, Jr., passed away on July 28, 2021 peacefully in his home.
He was born in Mamou to parents Joseph James Reed, Sr. and Geneva Marie Reed on April 23, 1963. He attended Sacred Heart High School Class of 1982 in Ville Platte. He went on to attend and play football at McNeese State University, where he met his wife Gina. He was an entrepreneur, owning and operating two businesses; Specialized Movers and Maintenance and JR's Quarter Horses. He enjoyed taking a hands on approach to life. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and was active in St. John Bosco Catholic Church where he was a member of A.C.T.S.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Gina Reed of Westlake, LA; son, Tyler Reed and wife Madison of Moss Bluff, LA; daughter, Lanie Reed of Westlake, LA; mother, Geneva Reed of Ville Platte, LA; brother Marty Reed and wife Cathy of Ellwood City PA; sisters Christina Reed and husband Kyle of Luling LA, and Michelle Morein and husband Marty of Ville Platte, LA; and his grandchildren Jaylen, Ashlynn, Magnolia, Daniel, and Josephine.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph "Jimmy" James Reed, Sr. and his nephew, William Patrick Morein.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Westlake, LA on August 6th, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm with a Rosary at 6pm. Visitation will resume Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 8am to 12:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Bosco Catholic Church at 1pm on Saturday, August 7th, 2021 led by Father Mike Barras. Cremation is entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake.
