Jerry Abeyta, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 26, 2021. Jerry was a life-long resident of the San Luis Valley. Born on July 18, 1943, to Gaspar and Carlota Abeyta, he was the youngest of four brothers. Jerry graduated from Center High School in 1961. After high school, Jerry served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his time in the Army Jerry attended Trinidad Community College then graduated from Adams State University where he studied psychology. After college, Jerry continued working on the family farm inherited from his father. When he wasn't busy on the farm, Jerry would provide trucking and hauling services around the Valley. When he wasn't working, Jerry enjoyed playing basketball and listening to early rock and roll music. Jerry was known by all who met him as a kind and gentle man. He was quick to smile and offer to help you any way he could. Jerry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Gaspar and Carlota Abeyta. He is survived by three brothers, Gaspar (Marie), John (Mary) both of Colorado Springs and Albert (Rachel) of Aurora, eight nieces and nephews, numerous grand nieces and nephews as well as three great-grand nieces.
The care of arrangements has been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa
Interment at the San Luis Valley Cemetery.
