With heavy hearts, we announce that Sharon Orlean Hodge passed away on July 24, 2021, in Winnipeg at the age of 63 years.
She is survived by her four boys, Adam, Joseph (Amanda), Kenneth (Katie), and Brendan; bonus grandchildren, Makenzie and Riley; grandchildren, Melody, Lillie, Xavier, and soon to be born Braeden; siblings, Lori (Ian), previously passed Wesley, Brad (Adrienne), Perry, and Dawn (Dave); and extended family and friends.
Sharon was the most loving, caring, and helpful individual you would ever meet. In her early years, Sharon showed a love and caring nature, for people, especially her brothers and sisters, and all animals, large and small. And she spent her adult life caring deeply for her family, helping them, guiding her sons as best as she could and helping raise her grandson. She went through life selflessly caring for the well-being of others, often neglecting herself in her care of everyone else. To say that she carried her heart on her sleeve would be an understatement. She owned, and loved, various pets throughout her life; ranging from cats, dogs, birds, gerbils, hamsters and degus.
Sharon was born in the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on September 23rd, 1957, to Donald and Grace Bell. She was born the second of six children and spent many of her formative years in Davidson, Saskatchewan, located between Saskatoon and Regina, but spent the majority of her life in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Sharon met her first husband, William, and they married in December of 1974, in Winnipeg, when Sharon was 17 years old. A short time later, in 1975, she gave birth to her oldest son, Adam. Even at this young age Sharon showed how much she loved and cared for everyone. They moved back to their roots in Saskatchewan shortly after Adam was born, but when Adam was 2 they returned to Winnipeg. In 1980 she gave birth to her second son, Joseph, at the Grace Hospital, in Winnipeg. Sharon did the best she could as a single mother to both Adam and Joseph for a few years before she would meet her second husband, Kenneth Hodge, who she married in 1988 in Winnipeg. Sharon's third son, Kenneth was born in 1989. Sharon and Ken bought their first house in the neighbourhood of St. Boniface in Winnipeg in 1991. Brendan, her fourth son, was born in 1993. Sharon, with the help of her spouses, raised her children to the best of her abilities and helped form them into the men they are today.
She earned her GED and attended Success School of Business in the late nineties and earned her degree in computer programming and repair. Sharon touched the lives of innumerable people in her lifetime, often maintaining those friendships over many decades and distances. Sharon spent quite a large portion of her adult life working in the hospitality industry as a server, spending some time working at the famous Red Top Drive In. She also spent many years at the now closed Country Kitchen, previously located between the Main Street bridges of Winnipeg, as a server and supervisor, where she worked until the restaurant's final day.
Sharon eventually became grandmother to three beautiful children, Melody Grace, Lillie Anastasia and Xavier William Stephen and bonus grandmother to Makenzie and Riley. She loved her grandchildren, and bonus grandchildren, and tried to spend as much time with them as she possibly could, often spoiling them with love, affection, gifts and candy. Sharon sadly passed before she could meet her fourth grandchild, Braeden Michael Logan, whom she predicted and knew was coming before his parents did. She always possessed a sixth sense of sorts if something was going to happen, either happy or tearful. She was almost always full of smiles, laughter and jokes, often entertaining her youngest grandson with stories she would make up on the fly.
Sharon spent many years volunteering for Girl Guides of Canada as a unit leader for The Brownies, known to the young girls in the age group as Brown Owl. It would be this association with the Girl Guides that inspired Sharon to start collecting what she was known for, owls. She had many interests in her life, such as reading, arts and crafts, music and collectible figurines. She had at one time, crafted, and made mice figures that would fit over various containers as a sort of art piece. She would collect mice figurines, often receiving them at Christmas from her sons, before she started collecting owl figurines. Sharon would never discriminate against any genre of music, often listening to soft rock, country, hard rock, folk, r&b and dance. Her interest in movies was wide ranging from comedies to action to romance to musicals. Her biggest joy was always helping everyone else, giving them what she could, often making herself go without. She loved volunteering for various foundations, selflessly giving her time, love and devotion. Sharon spent many years volunteering and administrating Winnipeg Lost Dog Alert, either as a recruiter, trainer or volunteer posting lost dogs on the facebook page in attempts of reuniting said canines with their parents.
