James Winston Stokes age 84 of Thomaston, AL died July 30, 2021 at his home. He was born June 28, 1937 in Thomaston, AL to William Everette and Bertha Grey Stokes. He was retired from the Marengo County Board of Education.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine B. Stokes of Thomaston, AL; two sons, James Wayne Stokes and John Douglas Stokes of Thomaston, AL; two brothers, Elvin Myles Stokes and Billy Gaines Stokes of Thomaston, AL; sister, Phyllis Hicks Jackson of Pine Hill, AL; four grandchildren, Kylie Elizabeth Stokes, Tebow Cullen Stokes, Molly Kate Stokes, and Anna Kate Golden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Everette Stokes and Bertha Grey Stokes; brothers, Charles Everette Stokes, Warren Lyman Stokes, and Willie Argle Stokes; sisters, Alice Lalene McGilberry and Anniece Joyce Clark.

Visitation will be held at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville, AL on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time with Rev. Mike Snow officiating. Burial will follow at Thomaston Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
