One of nine children, Kathy LeAnne (Parks) Hunt was born on July 23, 1972 to Robert and Donna (Donahue) Parks in Albia, IA. Spending her early years in Melrose, Kathy's family later moved to Albia where she graduated from Albia High School with the class of '92, and then attended Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA. It was through mutual friends from Indian Hills that she would be introduced to her husband of 21 years: Scott E. Hunt.
Scott & Kathy met on April 4, 1998 and were united in marriage a little over a year later at the First Christian Church in Knoxville on June 12, 1999. They started their lives together in a small country home just north of Knoxville before moving to a turn-of-the-century home on Main Street in Knoxville. After years of both Scott & Kathy commuting to Pella for work, they made the move to Pella.
Kathy started out working at a Bed & Breakfast in Pella, followed by Strawtown Inn, and Griffin Nursing Home. For the past 17 years, she worked as a custodian at Central College, working right up until her diagnosis.
On February 15th, Kathy was diagnosed with an advanced and aggressive form of cancer at the U of I hospital in Iowa City. Seeing that chemotherapy was not an option, she decided to come home, with the help of hospice, and was able to stay in her home where many friends and loved ones were able to visit her, and she could enjoy the company of her kitties.
Kathy loved cats of all kinds, and sizes! She loved visiting Big Cat Sanctuaries and even had her picture taken with a cougar and a lion! And she, of course, adored her own kitties, having owned 7 different cats with Scott over the course of their marriage. She loved feeding the birds, smelling the lilacs, and getting to see a beautiful red cardinal. She was a puzzler at heart, even having Scott make her a special "puzzle room" in their home where she could put together puzzles. She loved her extended family and enjoyed seeing all her nieces and nephews, spending time around the bonfire with them, and chronicling them in pictures as they grew up. And if you knew Kathy at all, then you absolutely know she was a diehard Iowa Hawkeyes Football Fan! She never missed a game.
Kathy Hunt is survived by her loving husband, Scott Hunt of Pella; her siblings: Robin (Alan) Buitenwert of Pella, Steve Parks of Albia, Gayla Glander of Colorado, Pat Parks of Colorado, Jana Parks of Albia; her parents-in-law: Don & Norma Hunt of Knoxville; and a sister-in-law, Kim Hunt of Middle Amana; along with several beloved nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Donna Parks; two brothers who died in infancy; and her brother, Kenneth Parks.
Kathy was a dedicated church member and loved the Lord. She grew in her faith and knowledge of the Lord through her membership at First Christian Church in Knoxville, then at Celebrate Church in Knoxville, and most recently at Liberty Evangelical Free Church in Pella where she was loved and cherished. On February 26th, 2021, at 48 years of age, Kathy Hunt went to be with her Lord.
