Mrs. Wright, 85, of Pineville passed from this life, Saturday, July 24, 2021 in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Joyce was born to Lonnie and Rena Burnsed, in Savannah, Georgia on February 12, 1936. She was one of nine children. In 1952 the Burnsed family moved to Orlando, Florida, where she graduated from Boone High School in 1954. Joyce and Gerald married in 1956 and started their life's journey together. After several moves, Joyce and Gerald moved to the Alexandria/Pineville area in 1970 with their four children.
They became members of The Pentecostals of Alexandria, where she was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost in 1971. While at The Pentecostals she was involved in various ministries including the Bus Route for eight years and she was Ladies Team Captain for 13 years. The nine-year-old Sunday School Class was her heartbeat and passion for 34 years. There she served as secretary, Sunday School teacher, and eventually served as the class coordinator. Joyce had a burden for the elderly people of the church and wanted them to be involved. With the help of Sister Mickey and Pastors the Senior Sixty Plus was organized and she was the coordinator of this group for nine years. She supported the church with her tithes, and donations to the Building Fund, World and Partners in Missions, Tupelo Children's Mansion, March of Dimes and Our Daily Bread.
In addition to her work at the church, she also volunteered in the community at Central State Hospital (1972 through 1978) and at the VA Medical Center. She was a member of the CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital Auxiliary for 33 years and a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie Burnsed, Sr. and Rena Shuman Burnsed; her brothers, Lonnie Burnsed Jr., Clem Burnsed, and Wade Burnsed and one sister, Alverine Burnsed Beasley.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Gerald Wright; daughters, Tina Wright Sullivan and husband, Cliff, Sandra Wright Lindsay and husband, Tom; sons, Jeffrey Wright and wife, Amanda, Gregory Wright and wife, Karen; grandchildren, Charissa Sullivan Owens and husband, Reldon, Corbi Lindsay Walters, Kristi Wright Brown and husband, Robert, Caila Lindsay Mann and husband, Mark, Brittany Wright, Brandee Wright, Whitney Wright, Kevin Wright and Selena Wright; great grandchildren, Rylan Owens, Livia Owens, Addison Owens, Micah Walters and Bailey Brown; brother, Floyd Burnsed; sisters, June Scearce, Mildred Edwards, and Vera Stone; many nieces and nephews; host of other family members and friends.
