Robert Louis Fox was born September 29, 1942, in Coffeeville, Mississippi. He was the son of Charlie Fox and Lillian (Terry) Fox Sr.
Robert relocated to Alton, Illinois in.1966. Robert was a United States Veteran serving in the Army and was Honorably discharged. He was employed with the Alton Aluminum Plant and Wagner Electric for many years.

On July 23, 1973, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Jearline Stinson. To this union they were blessed with three children, Robert, LaTasha, and Jocelyn.

Deacon Fox was an active and faithful member of Greater St. James Baptist Church, where he united under the pastorate of the late Rev. Abraham Byrd. Currently Robert was a deacon and a member of Bible Study and Sunday School. Whenever there was a need in either his family, the church family, or the community, he was always ready and eager to assist.

Robert joined the Alton Fire Department after a 1973 Federal Court Consent Decree. He was among the first firefighters hired in the summer of 1974. He started on August 18, 1974 and was promoted to Captain on December 17, 1991, becoming the first African American Captain in the history of the department. After retirement he stayed very active. He was an avid golfer, skater, bowler, and friend to many.

On Tuesday July 27, 2021, Robert Louis Fox peacefully fell asleep in the Lord. He was blessed with seventy-eight years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Fox Jr.

In addition to his wife "Jeri" of 48 years, he is survived by his son Robert E. Fox of Godfrey; LaTasha Fox of St. Louis, MO; and Jocelyn (Michael) Proctor of Alton; his sisters Mae (Tom) Biddlecome and Sarah F. Fox and his brother Zimbalist Hayes both of Alton; three granddaughters, Aniya, Akira and Alana, two sister-in-law Marie Govan and Magnolia Harris, 3 brothers-in-law LeAndrew (Josphine) Stinson, Dan (Pearlie) Stinson, and Sylvester (Nora) Stinson, a host of nieces, cousins and many friends.

Visitation Saturday August 7, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Baptist Church 2016 Belle St. Alton, IL 62002
Burial to follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton, Illinois.
