GLORIA DEAN LEWIS was born August 20, 1946 in Rusk County's Dirgin Community. She was the second of ten children born to Lois and Annie Lois Peterson and the wife of Everett Lewis Sr.
ππ«π¬ Lewis was a graduate of Mayflower School, and later received her Small Business Certification from Tyler, Texas, and her Child Development Associate (CDA) degree from Kilgore College, Kilgore, Texas.
Gloria loved the Lord and was a member of Springfield Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church and united with Antioch Baptist Church after marriage. She was a member of the Board of Trustees Finance Committee, Deaconess Board,Youth Leader, Usher, Choir, and serving as Sunday School Musician and teacher in her later years. ππ«π¬ Lewis also joined the Heroines of Jericho early in life, and served as a leader of the Blue Birds, 4-H AND GIRLS Campfire Club in Rusk County.
ππ«π¬ Lewis touched the lives of many children throughout her thirty year career in the CAP Head Start Program. Some of her many roles included, head cook, Head Start Teacher, and family service advocate. She also served as financial secretary and manager in the family business, (Lewis Garage).
Preceded in death are her parents, Lois and Annie Lois Peterson, husband Everett Lewis Sr., one brother, Dale, and a baby sister.
ππ«π¬. Lewis leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Shelia Sammons (Dale) of Tyler, Texas, Fayette Davis (Rev. TJ Jr.) of Oakland, California, Everett Lewis Jr., of Henderson, Texas, one step-son, Jim Fields (Raynette) of Edna , Texas. Eight grandchildren, six great- great grandchildren, seven siblings, Minnie Hendrix, Lewis Peterson, Christina Hooper, Amos Peterson, Jimmy Peterson,Brenda Chumley, and Charles Peterson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
The family has requested social distancing and to please wear a mask.
