David "Dave" Clinton Hale of North Bend, Washington, died peacefully on July 22, 2021, at age 84. David was born October 23, 1936 in Wenatchee, Washington. He was the eldest of eight children born to Donald and Dorothy Hale. He spent the first few years of his life in Wenatchee, then moved with his parents west of the mountains – in various homes near Granite Falls and Arlington, Washington. His fondest childhood memories are of living on his parents' 10-acre farm on Burn Hill in Arlington.

Dave and his siblings have many stories of growing up near Arlington, including working on local farms, caring for livestock, living frugally, spending time with their Grandma and Grandpa "Hale", and becoming friends with some of the local Christians in their community. Dave started working with his father at a very young age and acquired his own job at 12 years old – when he was put in charge of delivering milk to his neighbors. It was here that Dave learned to drive (around age 13), his first vehicle being a 1938 International Ton and a Half Truck at age 15.

He attended his local grade school until 8th grade, when he prioritized working long hours to help support his parents and siblings instead of attending school. Dave was known to be an incredibly hard worker– taking all kinds of odd jobs around town, working at a local box factory, and gaining valuable life skills and a work ethic that carried him through the rest of his life. He also briefly attended Tacoma Technical College where he studied Diesel and Heavy Equipment maintenance. He had a passion for tractors, classic cars, and trucks throughout his life.

At age 15, Dave accepted Christ as his personal Savior. Shortly afterward, he was baptized and received into fellowship at Arlington Gospel Hall where his parents attended with other local believers. It was here that Dave met the love of his life – Donna Miller – at an annual church conference. He was 17 years old and she was 15 years old when their paths first crossed; Dave liked to tell the story that he "knew she was the one" even back then. They kept in touch by way of letters and visits – eventually marrying at Tacoma's Winthrop Hotel on July 15, 1957.
Shortly after getting married, Dave was drafted into the U.S. Army for 2 years where he served as a medic. During this time, Dave was able to travel across the country and went to Germany on assignment. When he was honorably discharged home, Dave and Donna bought a house in Seattle, Washington where they lived for the next 46 years. It was in their Normandy Park home that they raised three children – Janice (1966), Jon (1975), and Jason (1977). During this time, Dave made himself a career at Sears and Roebuck – working his way up from store clerk to regional manager; earning the respect of many who worked alongside him through the years. He retired from Sears in 1992 after 28 years of service.

Dave (with Donna) was in happy fellowship at West Woodland Gospel Hall (Seattle, Washington) and continued in Clearview Gospel Hall (Snohomish, Washington) when the assembly changed locations in 2006. They remained in happy fellowship with the believers at Clearview, even though Dave's failing health made it difficult to attend meetings regularly in the recent years. Dave was very involved in his assembly throughout his life, serving as an elder for many years, being an encouragement to others, and freely sharing the gospel to those he met along the way. Dave was well known for his generosity, kind heart, and willingness to help others.

Dave and Donna moved to North Bend, Washington in 2008 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Dave was well loved and will be missed by many. Dave is survived by his wife, Donna Hale; siblings, Odin Hale (Arlene), Priscilla Thurber, Marilyn Gratias (Don), Andrew Hale (Virginia), Reuben Hale (Lois), Stephen Hale (Margaret), and Sharon McLaughlin; children, Janice Johanson (Raymond), Jonathan Hale (Jessica), and Jason Hale (Teresa); grandchildren, Hannah Johanson, Phebe Markley (Dylan), Benjamin Johanson (Kayla), Rachel Turner (Richy), Elisabeth Marra (Anthony), Naomi Johanson, Samuel Hale, Joel Hale, Seth Johanson, Philip Hale, Esther Johanson, Asa Johanson, Cyrus Johanson, Claudia Hale, and Ira Johanson; and great-grandchild, Jaxon Markley, in addition to many extended family members.
