Kelly J. Leonard, 49, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Monday, July 26, 2021. Her memorial service will be 7:00 PM Sunday, August 8 at Prairie Hills Covenant Church, Sioux Falls, with burial of her urn at 1:00 PM Monday, August 9 at Ridge Lawn Memorial Park, Truman, MN. Visitation begins at 3:00 PM Saturday, August 7 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Kelly Jo Leonard was born September 10, 1971 in Madison, SD. At age five, she moved to a foster home in Sioux Falls, SD. Kelly was adopted by Lucille Leonard at age six. She grew up in Sioux Falls and went to Special Education classes. Kelly then attended Washington High School and later Roosevelt High School, where she was a member of the first graduating class in 1992.
Shortly after graduation, Kelly fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving into her own apartment, where she lived independently for 20 years. Through the years, she worked at Pizza Hut, The Ground Round and 10th Street Autawash. For the past many years, Kelly worked as a kitchen aide at LifeScape.
Kelly was a member of Prairie Hills Covenant Church, where she served as an usher for many years. She participated in Special Olympics from age eight, especially the swimming competitions. Kelly enjoyed watching Golden Girls on TV, cooking, socializing and going on dates with her boyfriend, Richard.
Grateful for having shared her life are her mother, Lucille Middleton, Sioux Falls, SD; her boyfriend, Richard Riter, Sioux Falls, SD; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her special friend, Anna Perry, Sioux Falls, SD.
