Violet H. Glass, 91, Lewiston

Violet H. Glass, a longtime Lewiston resident, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Royal Plaza Care Center. She was 91.

Violet was born April 16, 1913, to Peter and Rosa Engle Abbiehl in Lakeville, Ind. The family later moved to Wisconsin. After the death of her mother, she helped raise four brothers and two sisters. This continued after the death of her father.

Violet married James H. Glass in Sheldon, Wis., Nov. 3, 1935. They farmed in Wisconsin and Indiana until they moved to northern Idaho in 1948. They located to the Lewiston Orchards in the spring of 1950.

Violet was employed by the Raymond Hotel and many families in the Lewiston area. She also was the able assistant of her husband in the building and remodeling of several homes. Her tremendous aptitude for sewing and tailoring made many brides and bridesmaids very appreciative. Her family has been the recipient of much handiwork. She was very proud of her vegetable garden and loved to preserve its harvest.

Violet visited the four corners of the United States and Hawaii on different trips. She also spent time on the water in boats her husband had built.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie M. and husband Gale Wilson, Lewiston; one son, James C. and wife Mary Ellen Goans Glass, Suquamish, Wash.; four grandsons, Michael Wilson of Salt Lake City, Larry Wilson of Lewiston, James D. and wife Lisa Glass of Suquamish, and Kelby T. and wife Heather M. Glass of Raeford, N.C.; and 4 1/2 great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and all of her 12 brothers and sisters.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lewiston. The graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston with the Rev. Steve Taulbee officiating.
