Charles R. Eden

Former longtime local resident Charles R. Eden, 75, died May 6, 1999, in Mesa, Ariz.

He was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Shamrock, Texas. He and his wife, Virginia, were married April 17, 1943, and moved to Longview in 1950 from Fresno, Calif.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked for Longview Fibre Co. for 27 years before retiring in 1986. He enjoyed an active retirement and spent time traveling with his wife in their recreational vehicle, playing tennis and enjoying his family and many friends. Mr. Eden was known as a wonderful dancer and always made sure he dance the first and last dances with his wife.

The Edens' travels took them across the country several times; they had friends in almost every state. After spending many winters in Arizona, they moved permanently to Mesa two years ago.

In addition to his wife, at home, survivors include a son, Charles Eden of Longview; two daughters, Beverly Gilchrist and Jenny Tellinghiusen, both of Longview-Kelso area; a sister, Henry Wesley Koonce of Momona, Calif.; a brother, Van Eden of Pomona; 11 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A memorial services is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park with Don Sheldon officiating.
