Lonnie Charles Thompson was born in Durant, Oklahoma, to Audrey Wheeler Thompson and Mary D. Thompson on December 31, 1947. They moved to Weed Patch in 1958 and then to Red Bluff. CA. Lonnie attended Red Bluff Union High School from 1962-1966.

He worked at Louisiana Pacific after high school. He was hired by Bud Mikelson to run the production at E.W. Procter Co. in Inglewood, CA.

In 1969, Lonnie married Irene Wright and was drafted into the U.S. Army. Later that year, he did his basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington. At Fort Lewis, Lonnie received the most determined trainee award and jumped two ranks at once. Lonnie and his family were stationed in Schweinfurt Germany. Lonnie held the rank of Sergeant; in addition, he was handpicked by the brigade commander to be his personal driver and assistant. He drove the entire chain of command in Europe to secret missile sites. Lonnie received the Army Accommodation Medal for service, one of the highest peacetime awards given at that time.

His daughter, Jennifer, was born in Wurzburg , Germany, on June 24, 1971. The family moved back to Red Bluff in November of 1971 where Lonnie was hired by Alan Wing at Wing Trailer Enterprises. His son, Jeffery, was born December 20, 1972. Lonnie later became the owner and operator of Wings, where he added a sporting goods store. He kept the store for twenty years until he sold it and went to work for the Tehama County Department of Education at Corning High School. Lonnie worked his way up to Superintendent of Maintenance and retired after twenty years of service.

The last nine years of his life were spent with Patsy Branson. Lonnie and Patsy both lost their lives to Covid 19 in Mercy Hospital. Patsy and Lonnie died one hour apart on July 7, 2021.

Lonnie was preceeded in death by his parents, Audrey and Mary Thompson, two brothers Dwight and Jerry Thompson, his daughter, Jennifer Thompson, and his companion Patsy.

Lonnie is survived by his son, Jeffery Thompson, brothers and sisters, A.W. and Mel Thompson, Stan and Nancy Thompson, Melvin Thompson, Sister Kelly Thompson and many nieces and nephews. Other survivors include one million friends and many acquaintances and relatives .

There will be a viewing on July 22 at Chapel of the Flowers on Walnut St., located in Red Bluff, from 4-8 pm. Due to Covid, Lonnie's services will be graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery in Red Bluff, on July 23 at 2:00 pm, where he will be interred next to his daughter Jennifer.
