George James Stewart, 67, of McClure, passed away on July 28, 2021, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born October 18, 1953, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late George Thomas Stewart, Jr., and Beverly (Naylor) Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Rosann H. Moore and his father-in-law, Rev. Lee Edwin "Ed" Moore, Jr.
George is survived by his wife, Kimbra (Moore) Stewart. He is also survived by his children, Douglas Stewart and wife Melissa of Lewistown, Steven Stewart and wife Stephanie of Harrisburg, and Christopher Stewart and wife Jessica of Reedsville. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson, Mya and Zoe Stewart.
George's love for camping, hunting and fishing, which he enjoyed sharing with his three boys, began and flourished during his years as a Boy Scout from ages 11 through 18. George was in Troop 18, sponsored by the Grace United Methodist Church. He attended Seven Mountains Scout Camp for a week each summer and enjoyed many additional weekend camping trips there, as well. George was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, a fraternal group within the Scouting movement, and he formulated several lifelong friendships through his Scouting experience.
George was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church of Lewistown, and then later joined Grace United Methodist Church of Lewistown where he was a member for 43 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Penn Highlands High School, Lewistown Campus and a former member of The Burnham Lion's Club and Trout Unlimited. George was employed at the former Lewistown Gas Company and UGI Central Penn Gas, Inc., for 42 years as a service technician and meter reader.
On March 12, 1977, George married Kimbra Moore. They recently celebrated 44 wonderful years together. George was a loving husband and father, but his greatest joy was being a "Pap." It was love at first sight with his first granddaughter, Olivia, who he called "Pap's Girl." George shared a love of Legos and starting campfires with "Pap's Boy," Jackson. He enjoyed supporting both of them at whatever event they had and never missed Olivia's basketball or Jackson's baseball games. Later came Mya, who George called "Pap's Princess," and she returned the favor with one of her very first words being "Pap Pap." Mya loved taking care of her Pappy, making sure he had his water with ice, sharing snacks or a big hug at every visit. Lastly, George lovingly called Zoe his "Zo-Zo Bean," who always had the biggest smile and a kiss for her Pap. George enjoyed hiking with Zoe and her parents, and also taking her on her first fishing trip, as well.
George is also survived by siblings, Beverly Whitcomb, of Enola, Carol Kearns, of Lewistown and Darrell Stewart and wife Susan, of Lewistown; he is survived by six nieces and one nephew and was also preceded in death by brother-in-laws Kenneth Whitcomb and Philip Kearns.
Lastly, George is survived by brother-in-law Matthew Moore and wife Gina of Lewistown, along with their sons Gage, Evan and Reese. George shared his love for hunting and fishing with Evan; sister-in-law Stephanie (Moore) Prendergast, of Reedsville, and her children Allison, Abbygail and Keegan. George held a very special place in each of her children's hearts.
