Born in Alburtis, Thomas was a son of the late Samuel and Bessie (Breunig) Hemphill. He was a dedicated member of Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown and was a graduate of Emmaus High School. Thomas honorably and faithfully served in The United States Army during World War II. He was employed in the maintenance department at Kutztown University for 35 years until his retirement in 1986.
He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan and would either watch them play on television or listen to them on his radio. Above all, Thomas loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Thomas is survived by his daughters, Barbara A. (Hemphill), wife of Robert J. Hausman, Allentown and Nancy J. (Hemphill), widow of David A. Snyder, Sr., Alburtis; four grandchildren, James R. Hausman, David A., Jr., husband of Amber L. (Pitten) Snyder, Kathryn A. (Hausman), wife of Kyle Rooney, and Cindy M. Snyder and her boyfriend, Sam T. Kresky; and three great-grandchildren, Evan S. Hausman, Allison R. Rooney and Olive A. Snyder.
Along with his wife, parents and son-in-law, Thomas was predeceased by his sisters, Bessie M. Mohr, Mary A. Carlins and Carrie Lovelace; and a brother, George Hemphill.
A funeral service to celebrate Thomas's life will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 2:30 PM in Ludwick Funeral Homes, Inc., 25 East Weis Street, Topton, with Pastor Lynn Shoemaker officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Longswamp Union Cemetery, Mertztown. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Friday from 1:30 to 2:30 PM in the funeral home.
