Judy Schiebout Fisher passed away from complications with Alzheimer's Disease on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, with her husband of 52 years at her side. Judy was born at Ireton, Iowa on January 9, 1946, a daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Van Schepen) Schiebout.

Growing up she attended Christian schools and graduated from Sioux Center Community High School. She earned her nursing diploma in Chicago, a BSN from the University of Virginia (1980) and a Masters in Nursing Administration from George Mason University (1990).

After language training in Hawaii, Judy's first permanent position was in a Vietnamese civilian hospital in Danang, Vietnam where she was a nurse advisor to Vietnamese nurses. While there she met her future husband Mike Fisher. While in Vietnam she was able to travel on R&R to Bangkok, Singapore, Penang Malaysia, and Hong Kong and on her way home to the United States visited India, Greece, Italy, and the Netherlands. While in the Netherlands she was able to meet some distant relatives, which was a highlight of her trip.

After Mike and Judy were married, Judy worked in hospitals in Norfolk and Charlottesville, Virginia before they moved to Northern Virginia. Upon her retirement in 2010 Judy was Director of Clinical Operations for the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and was nationally certified as a Critical Care RN and Nurse Executive Advanced. She had held many senior positions in the Inova Hospital system.

Judy was always highly active as a volunteer. She was one of the first CPR instructors in Virginia and became an instructor trainer, a hospice volunteer, worked with Habitat for Humanity, her church, the local food pantry and went on a mission trip to Haiti to work with young children. Mike always accused her of having that dreaded disease that when anyone said the words "would anyone be willing to…" her right arm would automatically shoot up. In her spare time, she was also a Master Gardener.

She and Mike have two children, Mike Jr. and Kris; as well as two granddaughters, Addy and Anna, who were the light of her life. Her four brothers, Harold, Dave, Bruce, and Tom, live in Iowa and Minnesota.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Rockfish Presbyterian Church.

Byrum-Parr Funeral Home is serving the family.
