James "Jay" Lanman Hubbard III was born in Norwich, Connecticut on September 25,1943. He passed away on July 25,2021 at his home in Sanford, Florida.

James earned a degree in electrical engineering from University at Buffalo, New York. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970 as a radar technician on a destroyer in the Viet Nam War theater. In 1972 he entered training with New Tribes Mission in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, where he met Beverly Rich, whom he married in 1975. Together they served as teachers at a school for missionary children in Brazil until 1990. Three of their four children were born in Brazil.

During two furlough years, James earned a master's degree in Biblical literature, the first year at Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon, and the second year at Columbia University in Columbia, South Carolina.

From 1990 to 1997 the family was stationed at the mission headquarters in Sanford, Florida, where James served in the IT department. Then from 1997-2009 he was a teacher and IT administrator at The Master's Academy in Oviedo, Florida.

From his retirement in 2009 to his death, the focus and passion of his life was spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ wherever and however he could. His life had a profound influence for good on many people. Another focus was transforming the house and property he bought in 2001 from somewhat of a junkyard to a place of beauty. He will be dearly missed.
