In his younger years he enjoyed showing cattle and his dog, "Mitzi" for 4-H. Fred loved knowledge, especially history, and spent many years in college obtaining 2 master's degrees. He was a dissertation short of his Doctorate on homelessness.
Fred worked for the Commission for the Blind taking care of the Food Service at the Iowa Capitol Building. He also served many churches as minister and was a chaplain for a nursing home during his ministerial training. He had a huge heart for the homeless. During his lifetime, Fred lived in many places. He loved to travel and experience new places.
