James Montiville Elkins age 78, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia and passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021, at his home following a lengthy illness.

James was born June 30, 1943, in Slate, Virginia, and was the son of the late Marion Oliver Elkins and Alice Pearl Matney Elkins. He proudly served his country in U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. He was a retired engineer for Norfolk Southern and had attended the Claypool Hill Church of Christ. James had lived most of his life in the surrounding area. He was a proud life member of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jean Underwood Elkins, and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son, James E. Elkins of Cedar Bluff, VA

His sister, Alice Chareste of Crossville, TN

Sister-in-law, Shirley Elkins of Gray, TN

Several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive.

At the family's request, a private burial will take place at Greenhills Memory Gardens.
