Maria Micaela de Jesús Ricarda Rodríguez was born "7 Feb 1820, como á las cuatro de la tarde"and baptized at Mission Santa Cruz, #3157. She was the daughter of Alejandro Rodríguez, 1791-1848, corporal at the Monterey Presidio and Concepción Benedicta Martínez, 1796-1879, both among the first generation born in Alta California from the "razón" soldiers and settlers from Nueva España.

The Rodríguez and Castro families were both prominent landowners in Santa Cruz; she had four surviving children with her first husband, José Ygnacio Castro, 1817-1859:

José Ramón de Jesús, baptized at two days old, May 18, 1838 SCZ# 2305
José Simón de la Trinidad, baptized October 28, 1839 SCZ# 2325, mother "Maria Lugarda Rodriguez"
Maria Ygnacia del Espíritu Santo Castro, born February 1, 1845, baptized February 16 SCZ# 2728
José Ignacio Mauricio, born September 22, 1847, baptized May 19, 1848 SCZ# 2798
Additionally, the 1841 census lists "Josefa Mojica", but not in the 1843 census.

In the 1836 census for Villa de Branciforte (CAMD), they were residing with her father-in-law at Rancho San Andrés Castro Adobe. It appears that the young couple had their own adobe on the premises, with an elderly relative:

Household #1 Joaquín Castro, 67, Maria Rosario Briones, 20
Guadalupe Castro, 22
Joaquín Castro, 15
Juan Bautista, 02
Ygnacia de los Angeles, 04

Household Number #2 Juan José Castro, 29, Maria Rita Pinto, 33
Manuel, 10
Guadalupe, 08
Trinidad, 06
Jesús, 04

Household Number #3 Ygnacio [Castro], 20, Maria Ricarda Rodríguez, 18
Maria Manuela Tapia, 68 [Rita Pinto's mother, widowed 10+ years]

After his death, she married Matthew Fellom, born in 1813 in Denmark.

Her third marriage was to José Eusebio Boronda, August 1, 1871 in Santa Clara County, whose son had married her daughter. She is named Recarda C. Fellure in the transcription although the handwritten original wedding document appears to be written Ricarda C. Fellom. The 1880 census shows "Jose Borondo" as a 73 year old white farmer, living in the Alisal Township of Monterey County with his 56 year old white wife Carmine "keeping house", 16 year old daughter Rosa, and a 30 year old laborer/servant. A family posting indicates she was going by the name "Carrine" and died in 1880. It seems likely that they lived some years after 1880, but no records have manifested.

Rest in peace, great, great grandmother; you are so intriguing!
