Roger Lee Scott, Sr., age 79, of Odin, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 4:27 P.M. on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia, Illinois. He was born on May 6, 1942, in Centralia, Illinois, the son of J.B. and Opal Lee (Owens) Scott. He married Margaret Atkins and they later divorced.

Mr. Scott is survived by his beloved family, sister, Joannetta White of Pontiac, Michigan, sons, Roger Lee Scott, Jr. of Springfield, Illinois, Steven Scott of Springfield, Illinois, and Andrew Scott of Springfield, Illinois, many grandchildren; five nephews, Lee Scott, Walter White and wife Barbara, Kenneth White and wife Linda, Keith People, and Michael Scott and wife Selena; three great nephews; four great nieces; and longtime girlfriend, Trina Logan.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. Scott and Opal Scott; brothers, Freddie Franklin Scott, and James Leroy Scott, Sr.; nephews, Carlos Scott, Sr. and James Leroy Scott, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Scott.

In his younger years, Mr. Scott attended Ricks Chapel AME Zion Church in Centralia, Illinois, with his family. He loved to be out on the open road riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and working on and purchasing old cars. When he was feeling the mood, he enjoyed dancing, especially to Patti LaBelle's "On My Own." Earlier in life, he liked playing basketball.

Mr. Scott retired in 2004 as an automobile mechanic for the State of Illinois in East Saint Louis, Illinois, and previously was a custodian for the State of Illinois in Springfield, Illinois, serving his state for a total of forty years. Mr. Scott lived in Odin, Illinois, for five years, and formerly lived in Belleville, Illinois, Springfield, Illinois, and Centralia, Illinois.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Roger Lee Scott, Sr. will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Reverend Val Powe and Reverend Ronald Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, Illinois. Friends are invited to visit with Mr. Scott's family from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.
