Paul Eugene Nelson, 79, of Troy, IL, born January 27, 1942 in Olney, IL and passed away July 18, 2021 in Oahu, HA.
Paul received his Bachelor's Degree at Washington University in electrical engineering in 1967 and work at McDonnell Douglas for his entire career until his retirement in 1997. He was an active and faithful member of Troy United Methodist Church, Troy, IL. He was a leader in the building of the current church and subsequent additions as well as holding several leadership positions. Paul participated in many mission trips to the Redbird Mission in Kentucky and was a founding member of the Troy United Methodist Sightseers. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the Tuesday Morning Men's Breakfast Club. He was a true servant of God and most always could be found at the church working on a variety of projects. Paul coached with Troy Soccer Club for many years when his sons played soccer. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, farming, cheering on his grandsons playing volleyball and soccer. Paul was always ready and enjoyed the build and setup for Ryan's annual Christmas display.
He was always ready to lend a helping hand to any and all in need.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna (nee Earnest) Nelson; his son, Mark Nelson; parents, Ronald and Mary (nee Walker) Nelson; and inlaws; Victor and Lois (nee Kennedy) Earnest.
Surviving are his son, Craig (Judith) Nelson of O'Fallon, IL; grandsons, Ryan and Ethan Nelson; a brother, Lloyd (Sharon) Nelson of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Bob) Earnest of Newton, IL; Nieces and nephews, Pam (Merik) Ramsey, Deborah (James) Riddle, Diane (Craig) Howard, David (Maureen) Nelson and Brad (Joanne) Nelson; great nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Visitation is 9am to noon on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Troy United Methodist Church, Troy, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon of Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Troy United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Adams officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.
