Richard L. Russ, 85, of South Bend, IN and formerly of Royal Oak Township, MI passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 17, 1936 in Royal Oak, MI to the late Harold and Cleona (McVeigh) Russ. On June 22, 1957 in Hazel Park, MI, Richard married Mary (Yarmak) Russ, who survives.
Also surviving are his daughters, Kimberley (David) Blazo of South Bend, IN and Dana (David) Klier of Washington Township, MI; sons, Darin (Ellen) Russ of Frazier, MI and Craig Russ of Warren, MI; twelve grandchildren, Drew (Amy) Blazo, Jordan (Briley) Blazo, Devon (Christina) Blazo, Spencer (Courtney) Blazo, Bennett (Kelsey) Blazo, Chandler Russ, Austin Russ, Jillian (Stephen) Hornack, Lauren (Joe) Cott, Torrie (Brennan) Madison, Hannah Russ and Ryan Russ; eleven great-grandchildren; and brother, Marvin Russ of Troy, MI. In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his brothers, Wesley Russ and James Russ.
Richard was a handyman who enjoyed building things and helping family and friends with home projects. He was a World War II buff having watched many movies and documentaries, read books, and collected memorabilia.
In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be no local services. Palmer Funeral Homes-Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements. Inurnment will take place at a later date at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, MI.
