Graveside celebration of life will be held at 10 AM, Friday, July 23, 2021, at Ross Cemetery, west of Neodesha, KS.
Jeanne was born February 9, 1948, to Calvin George and Wilma Lee (Bush) Madison. Jeanne received her certificate of Practical Nursing in Los Angeles in 1966, a certificate in welding from Soutwest Vo-tech in Liberal in 1979, her AA degree from ICC in 1988 and her BS in Education: History and Social Science in 1990 from Pittsburg State University, with honors at each location. She had worked as a private and practical nurse, a welder with IMCO, a quality control inspector at the ammunition plant, upholsterer / designer with Cobalt, a bookkeeper for Beachner Grain, and a substitute teach with USD 446, 447, 461 and 387. She was also an orientation leader at PSU, a Red Cross instructor in Advanced First Aid / CPR and was active as a den mother with the Cub Scouts. Most importantly she was a farmwife with Carter Ranch in Neodesha. She also played for the city of Neodesha Tennis Team, was team Captain of the American Women's Bowling League, member of Civil Defense and Emergency Preparedness, Rural Fire Department, manager of city rec adult softball, and assistant coach for little league, among many other things. She married James Heffernan in 1967 and they later divorced. In 1990, she married George Carter and he passed away in 1991.
Jeanne Carter is survived by her children, James Paul Heffernan III and Christine Marie Ripple-Franklin. Siblings: Judy, Rodney , Shelby, Joanne, David, Cissy and Michael. Eight grandchildren, David Lynn Ripple, Brian James Ripple, Aaron David James Heffernan, Amber Dawn Heffernan, Charessa Daylyn Franklin, Chaundra Ann Marie Franklin, Logan Heffernan and Dillon Heffernan. Great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Addisyn, Jacoby, Braxton, Tyson, Ava, Quinaysha, Quiniya, Quinisia. Numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She also leaves her companion of 17 years, Alan Beckwith of Neodesha.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Jerry, Colleen and Georgia, and husband, George Carter.
