LEXINGTON: John "Jackie" Carpenter passed away Wednesday, Jul 21, 2021 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was 74.

He was born August 9, 1946 in Galion to the late Clarence, Jr. and Catherine (Ross) Carpenter and graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1964.

A U.S. Army veteran, Jackie served in Germany during Vietnam.

John worked over 36 years at Timkin in Bucyrus retiring in 2001 from furnace maintenance. He also dabbled in photography doing family portraits as well as nature scenes. Jackie received prizes for his work including a portrait of Roy Rogers and Trigger.

A member of Covenant Church, he was also active in Kiwanis and Jaycee's. For many years he served on the entertainment committee for the Bratwurst Festival and played Santa around the holidays.

Jackie loved to read political theory, biographies and comedies. He also enjoyed flea marketing, hunting for various collectables.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl (Parker) Carpenter, whom he married August 23, 1969; sons Mark Carpenter and Mike Carpenter all of Lexington; a grandson Matthew Carpenter; brother Robert (Barbara) Carpenter of Florida, and his beloved Chihuahua-mini pincher mix Bullet.

The family will observe private final disposition services.
