He grew up in White River Jct., and graduated from Hartford High School in (year). He enlisted shortly after graduation and served in the US Navy for four years.
Butch returned to the Upper Valley and started working for his father's business, Hartford Oil Company as a truck driver.
On August 17, 1974, he married Kim Berry and they made their home in West Lebanon, NH. They had twins in 1976, a son, Scott and daughter, Brady-Lyn. He drove for Abenaki Fuels, Decato Brothers, Johnson and Dix but eventually returned to haul fuel for Hartford Oil. Many of those years Butch did long hauls and would be gone for extended periods of time. As he got older, he switched and began running the shorter day routes for the company.
Throughout their entire married lives Kim and Butch enjoyed camping. For many years they held a seasonal lot at Abel Mountain Campground in Randolph, VT where they formed some very special friendships. Along with these friends they went on many excursions, including hauling their campers all the way to Disney in Florida, and going on several cruises. For the past couple of years, they have camped at Rest-In-Nest Camp Ground in Thetford, VT.
