He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bolton, Mississippi.
He met and fell in love with Laura L. Smith. They were united in holy matrimony on July 24, 1947, to this union nine children were born, His wife, and three daughters preceded him in death, along with four sisters.
Deacon Benton was a faithful member in the church until his health failed.
Deacon Robert Benton, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories, five daughters: Annie Hodge (James) of Jackson, MS; Mary Hill of Jackson, MS; Diane Riley (Eddie) of Los Angeles, CA; Linda Ford (Andrew) of Jackson, MS; and Carlene Buckner of Killene, TX; three sons: Robert Lee Harris of Jackson, MS; Robert Benton, Jr. of Jackson, MS; and Don Benton (Pat) of Long Beach, CA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation for Deacon Benton will begin on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Peoples Funeral Home, 886 Norht Farish Street, Jackson, MS from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Refuge Temple Church, 4456 Medgar Evers Blvd. Jackson, MS with his final resting place of Garden Memorial Park Cemetery, 8001 Highway 49 North, Jackson, MS.
