She was born October 28, 1913 in Utica, Mississippi to Isiah and Alma (Ross) Mobley and graduated from Utica High School. She later received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Alabama and a second Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Rose went on to teach English for eight years in Mississippi Schools and twenty-one years in Michigan schools, with the last eighteen years at the Escanaba Area Public High School. In addition to teaching English, Rose served as an instructor of aircraft mechanics on B-24
