Sampson was born in about Jan 1805 in Lynn, Massachusetts. All other records indicate this, but I have yet to locate a birth record, or his parents. He changed his name to Thomas Clarkson Cummings on May 10, 1848.
He married Elizabeth Chapman, of Ipswich, June 3 1830 in Lynn, Mass. Together they had at least 7 children: William Wirt, Mary Elizabeth, M. Antoinette, Charles S, John H, Hester A, and Catherine B.
The family resided in New York, during the late 1830s, early 1840s. They were in Batavia, Genesse, NY in 1841. They moved back to Lynn by 1845.
