Anthony Jerome Baldwin Sr., 46, had a smile that could warm the icy depths of space.
Retired FCC (SW) Anthony Jerome Baldwin Sr., 46, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 in Hanover, Md.

Anthony was born Jan. 5, 1971, in Chapel Hill, N.C., to Linda Baldwin Alston and Frank Baldwin. Following his graduation from Orange High School, Hillsborough, N.C., Anthony joined the U.S. Navy on July 12, 1989. While on active duty, Anthony received numerous meritorious commendations and service medals, attaining the rank of chief petty officer before his retirement in 2011 with 22 years of service to his country.

While on active duty and following his retirement, Anthony continued his education at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, and Saint Leo University, graduating in 2013 with a Master of Business Administration. Anthony will be especially remembered for his love of Prince, his practical jokes, his tremendous heart, and a smile that could warm the icy depths of space.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memory his son, Anthony Baldwin (Sierra), and grandson Kameron Baldwin, all of Virginia Beach; mother, Linda Baldwin Alston, of Pittsboro, N.C.; brother, Jamie Alston, Pittsboro, N.C.; sisters, Clara Pennix, Virginia Beach, Dominique Suitt, Louisburg, N.C., and Sofia Alston of Rolesville, N.C.; godchildren, Arabia Alston-Bannister of Durham, N.C., Jerrica Jordan of Jacksonville, Fla., Egya Reddy of Scauri, Italy, and Kevin Jones, Rolesville, N.C. Also surviving are his uncle, Larry Baldwin (Veronica) of Pittsboro, N.C.; cousin, Andre Baldwin (Kim) of Chesapeake, Va.; and former spouse and close friend, Jeri Prophet of Virginia Beach. Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Ernest; and grandmothers, Eva Pennix and Katherine Baldwin.
Preceded in death by his step-father Ernest Lee Pennix.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Matthew AME Church, 1629 Bennett St., Raleigh, NC 27604. The family will greet relatives and friends at 10:30 a.m. Final interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Flowers may be sent from the Purple Poppy Florist in Wake Forest, N.C. Memorial contributions may be made to The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
