From his obituary in a Sikeston, Mo newspaper clipping: Resident of 14 Green Meadows died at age 52. Raised in Sikeston, he is the son of the late Lyman R. and Hita Gilbrath Bowman. Ben Bowman served as an Air Corp pilot (Eighth Air Force) seeing action in the European Theater of Operations in World War II. He was in the 487th Bomb Group based in Lavenham, England. In the years after the war he became VP and Secretary of the Board at Scott County Milling Company in Sikeston.

Ben Bowman is survived by his second wife Nana Lou Marshal Bowman; son Steven of Columbia, Mo (now in Savannah, Ga); daughter Laurie Lee Bowman of Blacksburg Va; brother Lyman R. (Jack) Bowman of Sikeston; sister Mrs Kathleen Bowman Farmer of Charleston, Mo. - Rita Heisserer Bowman, of Oran, Missouri was his first wife. They were married for 33 years.
