Obituary: Deloris Beatrice (Bailey) Richardson (1933-2021)

Deloris Beatrice Richardson, 88, went to be with our Lord on June 4, 2021. Beatrice was born on the Eastern Shore in Northampton County, VA to the late Ira C. and Jacqueline Carrington Bailey. She was a graduate from Northampton County High School and worked alongside her mother in the family-owned hair salon as a Cosmetologist in Cheriton, VA before relocating with her husband and family to Scott Air Force Base, IL. After his retirement, they purchased a house and the family settled in Mascoutah, IL.

Beatrice enjoyed many jobs in life; she trained and worked as a Hospital Unit Secretary at the Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL and later put her occupational qualifications to use at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Jose, CA until retirement. Not completely ready to retire, she tried her hand at being an Ophthalmology receptionist conducting eye examinations and preparing patients to see the Doctor. Feeling adventurous, Beatrice turned to another occupation and trained as a Certified Nurse Aide, where she took a small job as a senior companion for a short period. She was a dedicated worker with ethics beyond measure.

After retiring, Beatrice enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends telling stories and reminiscing about the old times, and making new memories with her grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to the radio, eating seafood, going for long or short rides around town and traveling across the country. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and Friend.

She was preceded in death by her Mother Jacqueline and Father Ira, Brother Michael, and Son Myron. Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Dr. Gwendolyn Drake and Beverly Robinson; sons, Charles "Tony" Richardson, Kenneth (Isabel) Richardson and Brett (Brooke) Richardson; grandchildren, Duane Boggs, Danita Brooks, Dr. Paris Richardson, Michael (Tammara) Robinson, Kenneth Richardson Jr., Andre Rishawn, Tyler Colby, Collis Lawrence, Catharine (John) Keeling, Javier Richardson, Brett Anthony, Jasmyne Mercedes, Samone Mariah, Kaylin Lenae, Elijah Jayden, Emmanuel Josiah, Malakhi Joseph; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Boggs, Maleah Murphy, Makayla Gardner, Michael Robinson Jr., Mikha Robinson and a host of other great-grandchildren; daughter-in-Law, Sophronia Boggs; cousins, Wardell Nottingham, Chris (Denise) Purnell and a host of other family and friends.

The legacy of Beatrice's life will continue in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the hundreds of people whose lives she influenced so powerfully.
