John A. Mann Sr. age 84 of Northwood passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at St. Charles Hospital. John was born to Allen and Frances (Denniston) Mann on July 18, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio. John graduated from Lake High School in 1955. He served in the 170th Army National Guard from 1957-1975, retiring as an E6 Staff Sergeant. John married the love of his life Janet R. (McCann) and they were together for 60 years. He worked as an auto mechanic and transmission specialist for Ford Dealerships, holding positions as a service manager. At age 48, he became a journeyman tool and die maker. John worked for J&S Industrial Machine until he retired at age 68 due to failing health. John and Janet enjoyed a wonderful retirement traveling to many places in the USA and took 7 Caribbean Cruises. The highlight trip was a week in Mexico with all the children and grandchildren for their 50th wedding anniversary. In 1959 he joined the Port Lawrence Blue Masonic Lodge. John became a 32nd degree Mason in 1961 and joined the Scottish Rite, he received his 50-year and 60-year recognition from the Paragon Blue Lodge. John was a past member of the administrative board of Hayes United Methodist Church and a current member of Christ United Methodist Church. John is also a member of the Calvery Club, Swiss Men, and German Beneficial Union. John belonged to the Silver King Antique Tractor club of Plymouth Ohio and showed his tractor for 15 years. John had a love for racing cars and raced at multiple tracks in the area from 1956 to 1962. He was the go-to guy for family and friends to repair or build anything.

John is survived by his loving wife Janet; children Thomas (Kelly) Mann, Amy Timmons (Mark Timmons) and Lori Recker; grandchildren Ashley (Michael) Klein, Thomas Mann Jr. (Rachel Swope), Christine Mann (Andrew Covert), Matthew (Samantha) Timmons, Andrew (Chelsea) Timmons, Nicholas Timmons (Allison Stahl), Alexander Recker (Kaylee Veler), Timothy Recker (Madisen Vondran), and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son, John Jr.

Friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel in Oregon, Ohio on Sunday, July 25, 2021, from 2 until 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Christ United Methodist or Helping Hands of St. Louis. Masks are required for unvaccinated visitors in attendance.
