Obituary
James Edward "Eddie" Hardee Jr. passed away at his beloved second home on Gaston Lake on July 21, 2021 surrounded by his family. He fought a very short but courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Eddie was born in Nash County on February 24, 1953, to the late James E. Hardee Sr and Shirley Robinson Hardee.

Eddie was the true definition of a community advocate. At a young age he showed an interest in the Fire Department and joined after his father helped to establish the Battleboro Community Volunteer Fire Department. He later was elected as Chief. He served as the Fire Chief for 42 years until last year when he retired and took on the position as the Battleboro Fire Department Board of Directors President which he was currently serving. During his 50 years in the fire service, he helped to inspire many young men and women to not only be better firefighters but also better citizens of the community. His legacy will live on for many years. Eddie was also a very active at Battleboro United Methodist Church where he was a lifelong member. He served as the Pastoral Relations Committee Chair for the last 10 years but also served in many other capacities. In the past he was also a member of the Battleboro Jaycee's. Eddie was an Eagle Scout and later served as Scout Master for Battleboro Troop 110. His other hobbies included grilling and offshore fishing with his family and friends. Mr. Hardee also built two successful businesses on Gaston Lake. Hardee's Marine Services is known for the exceptional quality boat houses and that was due to his hard work and dedication over the last 36 years in business. Eddie also worked very hard with his partner to create Shoreline Specialists which placed rip rap on numerous miles of shoreline throughout the lake.

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Faye Williams Hardee, his son James "Jim" Edward Hardee III and wife Ashley, granddaughter Hayven Hardee, all of Battleboro, his brother Jeffery Hardee and wife Kelly of Spartanburg SC, his beloved four-legged companion Calcutta and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who all loved him dearly.

A service to celebrate Eddie's life will be held at Battleboro United Methodist Church on Sunday July 25, 2021 at 2 pm. Graveside service will follow at Battleboro Cemetery. The family will receive friends and visitors back at Battleboro United Methodist Church Educational building following the graveside service.
