He was born January 24, 1934 in Caledonia and was the son of Clarence and Lettie V. (Feigley) Henry. John is survived by his wife of 21 years, Jean (Sickmiller) Henry whom he married on August 4, 2000.
He graduated from Galion High School in 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. John was a police officer for the City of Galion from 1958 to 1965. He later worked many years as a machinist for Cleland Manufacturing and lastly for A & G Manufacturing.
In his earlier years, he loved taking his family to Lake Erie to boat, fish and waterski. John loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, going to the races at Mid-Ohio and sports of all kinds. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 303 of Galion and the "Do Nothing Club in Galion at Wendy's". He also enjoyed camping, gardening, jig saw and crossword puzzles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Christina Salinas of Las Vegas and Catherine (Randy) Nickler of Galion; son, John C. (Rachel Ison) Henry of Bucyrus; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Beth) Henry of Galion and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Jane Bachelder, Esther Bevans, Martha Bishop and Mary Henry.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021 in Fairview Cemetery, 1295 Fairview Ave. Galion, Ohio 44833 with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to Avita Hospice in care of the funeral home.
