Born May 18, 1946 in Verner, W. Va., he was the son of the late Segal Willis Browning and Betty Ruth Johnson Browning. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Katherine Browning.
After high school, Jerry worked in the coal mines in West Virginia. After moving to Hickory he worked in the furniture industry but his favorite job was with American Roller Bearing in Taylorsville. He was an avid fisherman and deer hunter.
Jerry took it upon himself to take care of his family and friends; all whom adored him and will greatly miss him. He attended Lebanon Baptist Church in Taylorsville.
Survivors include his wife, Donna R. Browning of the home; daughters, Amy Holsclaw of Hickory, Candis Dickinson and husband Gary of Taylorsville; sons, Jerry Dale Browning II of Newton, Michael W. Starnes and wife Rebecca of Taylorsville; sister, Peggy Ryder and husband George of Verner, W. Va.; 9 grandchildren, Chrissi Holsclaw, Kyle Holsclaw, Whitney Dickinson, Blake Dickinson, Kristina Costner, Emily Costner, Gabe Browning, Logan Browning and Christian Starnes; 4 great-grandchildren, Grayson Chambers, Gabe Chambers, Jaylen Winebarger, Raelyn Winebarger and his faithful companion, Bailey.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Eddie Jolly officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the service."
