Newmarket – John "Jack" Fitzgibbon, 88, of Maplecrest, died peacefully January 5, 2018 at Hyder Family Hospice House, Dover, NH after a courageous battle with cancer and dementia.

Born February 1, 1929 in Stoneham, MA he was the son of Richard B. and Louise (Nagle) Fitzgibbon, the seventh child of nine. He was raised in Stoneham and a 1946 graduate of Stoneham High School. He adored Stoneham and was incredibly proud to be a native of the Boston suburb. Upon graduating, he joined the US Navy and served in World War II.

He was honorably discharged and moved to Lee, NH in 1949 into the family "farm" home with his mother and youngest sister, Patty. That same year, he met his bride to be, Agnes "Aggie" Blanchette at Bouras's Ice Cream Shop in Newmarket. They were married in 1953 and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last June. Jack found his niche in the field of sales. He retired in the late eighties after 29 years as a John Hancock sales representative and worked throughout the NH seacoast region. He dabbled in real estate and owned Great Bay Real Estate of Newmarket. Family and friends joked that he could sell just about anything; And he did. Prior to John Hancock and after retirement, he sold everything from beauty supplies and bakery items to mutual funds, plow attachments, vitamins and coffee.

He and Agnes had a small camp up at Lake Winnipesaukee in the mid 60's. They enjoyed several summers there and after selling, continued to make family excursions to the Lakes Region area every summer with their three children. He loved to laugh and always said it was the best medicine. Some of his favorite shows were Archie Bunker, Married with Children, Saturday Night Live, Johnny Carson, Seinfeld, David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. He deeply respected nature, loved the outdoors and worked tirelessly to keep his yard manicured. He took great care of his pool and spent countless hours swimming with Aggie, his children and grandchildren. Everyone looked forward to his annual summer, family cookout. He was an avid reader, studied astrology and practiced Tai Chai for many years. Most important to Jack was his family. He spent his entire adult life taking care of them and nothing made him happier.

He loved to golf and for many years was a member at Rockingham Country Club. He enjoyed playing recreational hockey and softball and loved the competition. He was an exceptional ballroom dancer; He was a music lover and some of his favorites were Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Barbara Streisand and Josh Groban. He was a loyal Boston sports fan always routing for the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. He served as a selectman and Town Councilor for Newmarket, police department liaison, budget committee member and school board clerk. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a dedicated Catholic; A member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2179 and the Robert G. Durgin, American Legion Post #67 in Newmarket.

Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Agnes; three children, Kevin Fitzgibbon and his wife Debbie of York, ME, Lisa Dollen and her husband Edward of Exeter and Andrea Cabral and her husband Albert Jr. of Hampton; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and two sisters, Nancy DeLong of Ipswich, and Patricia Busta of Delaplane, VA; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and 6 siblings, Richard B. Fitzgibbon, Jr., Louise Bradshaw, Agnes "Dot" Murphy, Eleanor Alger, Marie Alger, and Alice DelRossi.

Visiting hours were held on Wednesday, Jan. 10th from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Road, Newmarket.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 11th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 182 South Main Street, Newmarket.

A graveside with military honors will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 11 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.
