Bennett, Douglas A. Muskegon, Michigan

Our beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Douglas Allan Bennett, was born in Muskegon on October 24, 1945.

He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1964 and began his Steamfitter's apprenticeship at U.A. Local #174 soon thereafter. He married the love of his life, Helene, on March 28, 1970 and began procreating almost immediately. Through hard work, determination, and his endearing personality, he rose through the ranks of Union leadership being elected Business Manager of U.A. Local #154 in 1983.

Doug served as Muskegon County Commissioner from 1999-2004. Thanks to collective bargaining, Doug was able to retire as Business Manager in 2004. Doug was elected as State Representative for Muskegon's 92nd District in 2004 and served in the legislature for 6 years.

Doug was preceded in death by everyone who died before him and is survived by all of those still living. Some of his favorite survivors are Mimi, Bear, Shandi, Ink, Spuddie, Mister, Peanut, Pokemeat, Bumpy, Benny, Bubbahead, Adelene, all three of the outlaws, Erik, Ryan and Danielle what's her name, his motorcycle buddy Mark and his golf buddy Uncle Denny.

Doug enjoyed mediocre golf, avoiding motorcycle accidents, walking Buzz, complaining about the 45th president and talking about plans he'd likely never follow through on. He was a plain spoken, hardworking, blue collar tough guy who never made it through Forrest Gump without crying. He was our hero and we'll miss him always.

Please join the family for a CELEBRATION OF DOUG'S LIFE on Saturday, August 7, 2021 from 4pm-7pm at U.A. Local #174 at 1008 O'Malley Dr in Coopersville. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to St. Judes, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan or any political candidate who shares his disdain for the former president.

You may sign his online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com Arrangements by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
