Dennis was the 5th child of Dennis Green Vaughn, Sr. and Lee Beams Vaughn. He was a partner in the Chandler-Vaughn Accounting firm, and later went to work for Fruit of the Loom, both in Campbellsville and later in Bowling Green. He was married first to Nelle Bryan Follis who brought two sons to the marriage, Chuck and Greg (Follis) Vaughn. The couple likewise had three more children, Dennis (Denny) G. Vaughn lll, John Paul Vaughn and Karen Vaugh (Hayes).
