Diane "Lady Di" Kay Not Afraid Russell

Diane "Lady Di" Kay Not Afraid Russell, 63, of Garryowen, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 24, 2018 at the Crow Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Baalaasitchialaache (One Who Always Makes Everyone Happy) was born September 14, 1955 in Crow Agency, Montana, a daughter of Starr Not Afraid, Sr. and Deana Medicine Horse Not Afraid. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church, Big Lodge Clan and a Child of the Greasy Mouth.

Diane was previously married to and divorced from Levi Yellowmule, to this union were four children: Garland, Brian, Leitha and Cyrus. She later married the "love of her life Andy "Papa" Russell, on July 3, 2001 in Sheridan, Wyoming.

She grew up in Lodge Grass and attended school at the St. Xavier Mission, Lodge Grass Elementary, St. Labre and Flandreau Indian High Schools. She continued her education at Little Big Horn College and received an Associate of Science Degree in 1990. She transferred to Montana State University in Bozeman and majored in Nutrition Science.

Diane was employed in various jobs. She was a head cook for the Wyola Schools, cook manager at Putts, receptionist for the Crow Tribe, Senior Citizens Director, General Manager Little Big Horn Casino, Home Care Provider, and Cenex Convenience Store.

Lady Di was well known for her numerous talents that included cooking and baking for family, friends and tribal functions. She was gifted in creating floral arrangements, decorating table settings, seamstress, jewelry, beadwork, regalia for family and carpentry among additional tasks. She was a "Jane of All Trades." She took special pride in cooking for gatherings, get-togethers, sweats and traditional feeds. She loved to teach her talents to her family members to carry on the traditions.

Diane was unselfish and generous, she would give of her time, money and gifts to whomever needed help. She was instrumental in campaigning for A.J. Not Afraid and took pride being selected to pray on the east side of the original four boundaries of the Crow Reservation. She was also on the inauguration committee and assisted in making his inaugural regalia.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, children Garland and Cyrus; her husband Andy, siblings; Sandra, Dickie Man, Elizabeth, Geneva, Carl, adopted mother Midge Venne; grandparents, Rose Plenty Good, Leslie Not Afraid, Julia and Thomas Medicine Horse; grandson, Buster Lee; nephews, Dee Jay, ClintCorey, Pete Onion; nieces, Claudia Bacon; uncles, Cyril Not Afraid, Leo Plain Feather; aunt, Aileen Not Afraid, Paulette Williamson, Pansy and Violet Hugs.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM WEDNESDAY IN THE CROW AGENCY SPIRIT OF LIFFE FOURSQUARE CHURCH. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW IN THE COW AGENCY CEMETERY. BULLIS MORTUARY HAS BEEN ENTRUSTED WITH THE ARRANGEMENTS.
