Born on May 7, 1934, in Eureka to Lawrence and Dorothy Hinnen Nichols, he married Karen Quase-barth on Dec. 27, 1971, in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, William (Pam) Nichols of Harrisburg, Pa.; three daughters, Rose Marie (James) Adams of Nicholasville, Ky., Lorna Nichols of Nicholasville and Dona (Troy) Young of Goodfield; one step-son, Shawn (Cynthia) Lahne of California; three step-daughters, Tammey Lahne of Winder, Ga., Teresa Howell of Bloomington and Tina Bernhoft of Bloomington; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He farmed with his father in the Goodfield area for many years. He then worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 27 years before his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the Goodfield Baptist Church.
