She was born on February 8, 1928 in Oakville, MD to the late Francis Leo Bankins and Martha Lee Young.

Dorothy was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, MD. She received her early education through St. Mary's Public Schools System. She married her loving husband, Paul Vincent Berry, Sr. on October 20, 1955 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lexington Park, MD. Berry, Jr. (Desiree) of Lexington Park, MD, and Brian Berry (Connie) of Waldorf; 8 grandchildren, Yolanda, Clarice, Angela, Oscar, Tobias, Brianna, Orlando and Craig, 14 Great grandchildren, and 9 great- great grandchildren.
